who am i?

So, you're wondering what The Busker's Union is?  Well, it's me - Kyle Skarshaug.  The inspiration for the band name was a new ordinance that was adopted by the city of Prague in the Czech Republic, called the Busker's Ethical Code.  Busking, of course, is artistic expression, usually in the form of music.  The city of Traverse City, where I live, calls it "street performing".  Being that I love busking, I thought the whole idea of busker's rights was fantastic, and I thought it was a great name for a band, even if it's just me.  So, who am I?  I'm a 17-year-old senior at Interlochen Arts Academy that has a passion for every aspect of music.  I'm a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, drums, bass, ukulele, vocals, and some piano.  I'm always up for a collaboration, and just love being around the creative process of music.  I've been the host of a TV show on Up North Media called "Northern Culture With Kyle".  Check it out some time.  I've played all over Traverse City, including Monkey Fist Brewing Co., Townline Ciderworks, Chateau Chantal, The Workshop, Left Foot Charley, Brew, Little Fleet, Taproot, and have also been featured in TEDx-Traverse City, Picnic at the Opera & the Traverse City Film Festival.  Some of the local musicians that I've had the wonderful opportunity to perform with are The Accidentals, Oh Brother, Big Sister, Blake Elliott, Zeke Clemons, Nik Carman, Aaron Dye, and Miriam Pico.  I'm also proud to be a drumset player and for the Interlochen Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Bill Sears, and a member of the Interlochen Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Keith Aleo.  I really just love music.  You can usually find me celebrating it, whether it be at an open mic night, in my school music program, or downtown busking away.  So, if you see me busking, stop and say hi.  If you're looking to busk, as well, cool!  But you'd better give me 50-feet of space.  The Busker's Ethical Code says so!  Ha!  :.)
